Day 5: 21/8/25,  Mt Garnett to Chilligoe.

Next stop, Chilligoe, west and then north, a short day of 220Km. On the way we visited Irvinebank, an area rich in Tin and the location of the first Tin mine in North Queensland before Chilligoe was developed. Interestingly they are finding rare earths in the area, something no-one wanted when the original mines where operating, and this is likely to bring new life into the area.

A picturesque lake on the way to Ivinebank, a bit out of the way, and needed 4WD, but not to adventurous and worth the effort, not sure we’d get the campervan up there.

Street art, Irvinebank Whisky Co?

We visited the Museum, rich in local history, and then Brian’s Shed, a huge eclectic collection of almost everything (this is only the first wall of spanners I found).

There was everything, spanners, saws, several Blitz wagons, bottles, snakes in jars, mining machinery, but to be fair, it was almost to much to take in in the short time we spent there, probably need to visit several times to truly absorb it all.

The weather is noticeably warmer now having gone from the low to mid 20C’s to low 30’s and being the dry season there is little humidity.
